One of my very best friends in the whole wide world is in labor as I write this, this is a delayed post though. I have known Cortney since 7th grade and she was one of my first real friends. Real friends meaning we told, and still tell, each other everything. This is a friend who could tell me about her ‘Christmas’ experience because we just didn’t care. I promise that you don’t want to know and the only thing that it has in common with Christmas is red and green.
Sophia,
Your Mommy is making great progress right now as she prepares to bring you into this world! She is about halfway there and doing great! I am sort of a mind reader and Michael must be too because he woke up at 4:40 am this morning screaming. While we were up all I could think about was your Mommy bringing you into this world. I wanted to talk to her but she has been working hard to take care of you so she was tired.
Then I got a text message from your Mommy at 7am saying that she thought it was time! How did I know that I had a text message is a fabulous question but I sure did wake up to check! Of course I couldn’t go back to sleep because I was that excited so let me tell you a little story…
I remember your Mommy cutting my hair, back before she knew that you were growing inside of her, and telling me about all sorts of changes that were going on in her life. I left that appointment and told my Mommy that she was pregnant. Boy did I have all of my fingers and toes crossed that I would be right!
One day I got a text and guess what?! You really were growing inside of her! I am sure I was just as excited as your Mommy because there is no love greater than the love that your Mommy is going to give you. You will grow up to hate her, call her names and do whatever it takes to make her mad but in the end she will show you what unconditional love is all about by still loving you.
As you grew to be bigger I was able to feel you move! Think of it like me giving you your first high five because I will always be someone that you can run to when your Mommy ‘just isn’t being fair.’ I sure do have some stories to tell you when you are older!
You sure do have one of the best Grandmas out there! Grandma McQueen was one of my favorites growing up! She had a never ending supply of Kool-Aid and your Mommy and I would drink pitchers upon pitchers of it during our sleepovers. I promise that you are going to love her!
Your Daddy isn’t half bad either. He is perfect for your Mommy and he passed my test. I will fill you in on how to test later on because you are going to meet plenty of toads in your life. He is a blend of nerdy, cocky and funny. (Ask your Daddy what cocky means.) You might break his heart if you don’t grow up to like video games so please give them a try.
Now onto the more pressing matters, my Son. Did you know that he was born on 7/19/11? You guys are so close in age and I am so happy about that! He is pretty handsome so it is OK to fall in love with him, please do. He would never hurt you because I would beat his butt for you. He will always be your knight in shining armor whenever you need to be saved.
You finally decided to make your appearance causing you to be fashionably late for your first appointment ever You just thought the inside of your Mommy was so cozy that you did not want to come out and play. If I was all warm, wrapped tight and constantly being fed I would have stayed too! I stayed up late just so I would know as soon as you graced the world with your presence.
The time is here! You are here! I am just so full of emotions for you right now, and your parents of course. I got to see a picture of you moments after you were born! I knew that you would be beautiful because your parents wouldn’t produce anything less than spectacular.
I am just beside myself with joy because you are that special. Always remember that and always remember how much your parents love each other. Oh can I tell you how nervous your Mommy was to have you? She had no idea what to do and she was just terrified of little babies. That is, until you were born. She is a natural and you are so lucky!
I can’t wait to kiss your chubby little cheeks and come meet you for the very first time! I will always bring you and your Mommy presents when I visit so you are going to love when Michael and I visit you! Oh I just cannot wait but I will give you some time to come home and get situated. You are going to have so many visitors and I think that the first weeks home should just be cherished time for a new family as you get used to your new life and surroundings.
I love you already,
Aunt Mallery

I hope that you get to write one soon as well! It is weird being on this side of a child and loving her so much. I can see why people like being Aunts and Uncles. I will be a blood line Aunt in a few months too!
