I decided that I would break up the tutorials for my Star Wars sewing crafts into two posts so it is easier on me to share. I have mentioned before that I don’t have a sewing machine so I have to prep everything and head over to see a man about a horse to finish these bad boys! Prepping includes measuring, cutting and pinning so when I get to a sewing machine all that is left to do is sew, sew, sew!
I have the sweetest neighbors that I could have ever asked for because they brought me a lot of handmade burp cloths and a blanket when Michael was born. From that moment on I vowed to never have a felt side on a burp cloth. My favorite burp cloths with Michael were plain ole cloth diapers from Gerber!
This is where you should pay attention. I cut all 20 of my cloth diapers in half so they were 7X10 inches. I then washed them because cloth diapers will shrink on you and nobody wants that to happen after you have slaved away on a project. Cloth diapers also fray in the wash so be careful, see picture on the right.
It turns out the cloth diapers shrunk just a little too much and had become too small for bibs. Dang it! So I will be buying another package of cloth diapers for my bibs and I won’t be cutting them down until after I wash them. You live and you learn right? She is also going to get 40 burp cloths now…
My new measurement for the burp cloths ended up being 8X10.5 inches.
When you pin your fabric together make sure you do it inside out because you will be flipping it right side out after you sew things together. We want to have pretty seams when we are done!
Stay tuned for more of the burp cloth tutorial!
