I don’t even know where to begin this post because I am that blown away with the support from everyone. I never dreamed I would hit my blogging goals so soon this year, let alone need to make a new blogging growth plan! I honestly thought I would meet my modest page view goal of 10,000/month by the end of my first year blogging (on this new site) and that would be it. I didn’t want to get my hopes up on some giant goal because there are SO MANY bloggers out there!
First world concerns about my blogging goals
- Are people going to read about my randomness?
- Are brands going to be OK with my extended posting timeline and rebellious ‘review’?
These are the things I
worried worry about EVERY day! Is anyone going to come out and play with me, or am I going to play with myself outside of the bedroom? You can ask my amazingly supportive friend how freaked out I was the final day of January. It was all, “OMG, I haven’t posted in 2 days and I’m not going to hit my January goal. What am I going to do? OMG, that means I don’t get to buy myself a site design treat. OMG! OMG! OMG!” <~ Real freak out conversation.
Blogging tip– Spend the time to research your keywords.
I am in no way some blogging genius. In fact, I am a teeny tiny fish in this giant ocean known as the blogosphere. All I know is that I’m having fun blogging for myself with some perks along the way. A big thing I have learned is to say no. Saying no to something is one of the hardest lessons I’ve ever had to learn in this PR driven world. One of my insane friends posted this quote and it really puts things into perspective about how I look at my new site.
You make something, and you really have fun with it, and you try to put emotion in it, and at the end of the day, you have no idea how the tide is going to fall. You don’t know if everyone’s going to like it, if everyone’s going to hate it, if it’s going to be like you’re a media darling, or all of a sudden you’re a sellout. You have no idea. -Regina Spektor
Blogging tip– PICTURES! Learn to use a camera! Learn to stage a picture! Learn to edit a picture! PICTURES!!! I can’t stress this enough. PICTURES!
I have nothing heartfelt to put under this bullet point because the pictures are going to make or break you if you write about most blogging topics out there. (Please note I said most, not all.) Do you know how I read any of my fellow bloggers’ sites? I scan down their post looking at their pictures before I even decide to read their masterpiece of a post. You don’t need a fancy camera or even Photoshop to get a good shot; it is so simple to adjust the white balance and the color levels of your pictures with (FREE) Pixlr. It’s so easy that this technology moron can do it.
Blogging tip– Twitter is not a one night stand type of relationship. Find the right hashtags and get your tweet on every day.
- I love you for helping me reach the blogging goals I had no idea existed inside of me.
- I love you for being a lurker.
- I love you for leaving a comment, giving me a social media share, clicking on a second page, and I love you for watching my ridiculous videos.
- I appreciate you more than you will ever know!
I hope you are having as much fun on this blogging journey as I am. Without you guys I wouldn’t have hit my blogging goals and would be talking to myself. Well… I have a few crazy perverts and the #purplearmy backing me up, but that’s somewhere around 6 people.
(Please note- I have reached my emotional allowance for this quarter. All of the remaining communications for 1Q13 will stem from my cold blood.)
