So I took my last oral steroid today and I get to give Little Mike breast milk starting Monday evening for a few days before I go visit the doctor for my new MS medicine. I am stoked to get to feed him at least another week! I have been working my tail off pumping to just maintain some sort of supply to get a bottle of milk at least.
Right now I am pumping somewhere between 5-10 ounces… ouch! My supply has dropped A TON by not pumping and nursing enough while taking the steroids. Do you know how much work it is to keep up? Holy cow!
So I read a lot of baby forums and these women are all raving about LACTACTION COOKIES! You heard it right- cookies to make more milk! Haha So I am going to be giving them a try of course.
The main ingredients that are vital to the success of the cookies are brewer’s yeast, steel cut thick oats and flaxseed meal. Other than that they are just an oatmeal cookie really. I am going to make two batches so I can try one with half the amount of sugar. I believe you can substitute applesauce for half of the sugar in a cookie and still get a good tasting cookie. I don’t really want to gain back all of the weight I have lost eating these buggers!
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 T water
- 2 T Flaxseed meal
- 2 Lg eggs
- 1 teas vanilla
- 2 cup flour
- 1 teas baking soda
- 1 teas salt
- 3 cup thick cut oats
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 2 T brewer’s yeast
- Mix flaxseed and water together and set aside for 3-5 minutes.
- Mix butter and sugar together
- Add eggs to butter and sugar
- Mix in flaxseed mix and vanilla
- Stir in flour, soda, salt, yeast
- Stir in oats and chips
- Bake 8-12 minutes at 375
- Should yield up to 12 dozen depending on your cookie size!
I am actually going to experiment in my batches with a double dose of brewer’s yeast to see how well that works. I mean I am only getting about 10 days to pump/nurse so I really want to kick this into overdrive. I will report back on my findings of course at the end of the experiment! Edit: there was no way I was doubling those ingredients because it would have tasted awful. The smell in a normal batch is strong so I could only imagine.
If you try them please let me know what you find from your personal experience too! Even if you can give your baby one bottle of breast milk a day I think it is 100% worth it in the long run!
