Baby Shower Gift: Lactation Cookies in a Jar – Horrible Housewife

Baby Shower Gift: Lactation Cookies in a Jar

You can pretty much expect that if you are going to be a breastfeeding Mom you are going to have a time when you feel like you aren’t producing enough milk.  Breastfeeding is a ton of work but most good things are harder.  (Don’t read too much into that comment because I am not here to judge anyone for breastfeeding or not breastfeeding.)

I am not saying go to a shower and only bring this gift of cookies but it makes a great additional item because it is so practical and she won’t even think about the cookie ingredients until she needs it.  I ate these puppies for 2 solids weeks for every meal but dinner. I was able to increase my supply 11 ounces a day between these cookies and 10 Fenugreek pills a day!

The idea for this gift came to me after I had made spaghetti for dinner.  It just pains me to recycle a perfectly good bottle and I am always looking for an excuse to pull out my Painters.

The supplies are minimal:

  • Glass Jar
  • Painters
  • rubber band
  • Cloth

I cut out a square piece of fabric for the top.  I secured it with a rubber band so that I could tie the ribbon to the top for decoration.

Decorate your jar and be sure to put what wet ingredients she still needs on the ‘baskside’ of the jar.  I am terrible with penmanship so my jar did not turn out as nice as I would have liked.  I think I will use a stencil next time.

Cookie Supplies:

  • Flour
  • Sugar
  • Steel Cut Oats
  • Brewer’s Yeast
  • Flaxseed Meal

She loved it and you can bet that when the day comes and she is stressing out about her milk production she will make these. Check out the full lactation cookie recipe!
