With everything that has happened this year, my social life has been reduced to a toddler, a baby, a husband in night school, and individuals of the medical sort. I had lost touch with plenty of old friends, but it wasn’t until we had back to back birthday parties, and a fun day full of people equipped with their own phlegm covered little black dresses that I figured out just how big the social void was. I realized how vital it was to my sanity that I add a few more summer parties on the grown-up spectrum to my schedule.
So, I got to planning a sparkle party full of libations for lightweights like myself.
I wanted to create a trendy atmosphere full of gold accents like this gold burst…
… and these polka dot candle sticks. Anything to give everyone a glimmer of being out on the town sans our buckets of drool, however brief the glimmer might have been.
Paper straws are all the rage, so I filled my fancy pants wine glass with a handful and set them next to the wine glasses for easy access.
And I can’t forget about the masquerade masks. Yanno, I wasn’t sure if anyone would want to slip out of their mom persona for the evening. Which only sort of worked since masks are like candy to tiny humans.
I tried.
BLACK AND GOLD SPARKLE PARTY FOOD:
Keeping with trendy, I set out tiny food like macarons,
deli spirals,
and cream puffs. My mission was anything they could eat in two bites or less.
Which I paired with tiny, gold plates.
Seeing how the entire sparkle party was inspired by Canada Dry Sparkling Seltzer Water, I made sure my guests had plenty of no calories, sodium or artificial flavors options to choose from.
As well as some cranberry and pineapple mixers. The possibilities! Amiright?

One conversation led to another and we now have weekly ‘friend dinners’ on the schedule so our boo-thangs can enjoy the fruits of my party planning. The lesson? Your friends need to eat. (Unless their name is Jenae.) Feed them and the men will find a way to join in on the fun.
BLACK AND GOLD SPARKLE PARTY COCKTAILS:
The pineapple wine spritzer was my favorite of the four blends I had available.
I started with 3 ounces of chardonnay and 3 ounces of pineapple juice.
Then, I added 2 ounces of Canada Dry Sparkling Seltzer Water in Mandarin Orange.
And I kept it not so classy… errr… chilled with some fun ice cubes.
Also making an appearance:
- Wine Spritzer:
- Equal parts any flavor spritzer and wine.
- Lemon Lime Spritzer:
- Equal parts raspberry seltzer, lemon lime seltzer, and wine.
- Raspberry Spritzer:
- Equal parts cranberry juice, raspberry seltzer, and wine.
BLACK AND GOLD SPARKLE PARTY FAVOR:
I wanted to send my guests home with a little somethin’ somethin’ that didn’t burn, but I couldn’t think of a container cute enough for my party. I was <this> close to throwing a handful of glitter on a paper bag with a sticker reminding them to ‘keep it classy’. Seriously. Have you ever tried to gift a can and a bottle of wine in something other than a bag? It’s not easy.
And then I remembered how I hoard empty formula containers like they are gold. Like, they were spilling out of my craft room and down the stairs.
My name is Mallery and I’m a hoarder in the name of crafting.
The beauty of this quick tutorial is how it doesn’t need to be perfect. I gave the container a quick coat of black paint to conceal the colors, added a spritz of spray adhesive, and let the glitter rain down. For real, I dumped the glitter on one, filled up the container with the loose glitter, and repeated. And repeated. And repeated.
Not even my husband could’ve screwed this one up.
I gave the contents a bit of height with a wad of tissue paper and called it a day.
That is, until I realized how difficult it is to clean up glitter. The struggle of a sparkle party, guys.
Is totally worth it.

You will find 12-packs of Canada Dry Sparkling Seltzer Water in Mandarin Orange, Lemon Lime, Raspberry, Pomegranate Cherry, and Original with the water at Walmart. Please promise me one thing, though. Please be better than me and save 50¢ on ONE (1) 12-pack cans of any flavor* Canada Dry® Sparkling Seltzer Water. The $2 I didn’t save could have paid for another bottle of wine. How’s that for perspective?
